The American Chinese Museum, newly opened at 7345-47 in Burholme, on Sunday celebrated the beginning of Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month.

The celebration has taken place every May since 1992, when President George H.W. Bush signed a law recognizing the contributions and culture of Asian/Pacific Americans.

The event featured an American flag raising while the Star-Spangled Banner played. The day also included a dance performance, and state Sen. Tina Tartaglione presented a citation. In addition, there were numerous speeches, a ribbon cutting and confetti shot into the air.

Others in attendance included City Councilman David Oh and state Rep. Joe Hohenstein, along with Anthony Bellmon and Heather Miller, two of the candidates in the 203rd Legislative District Democratic primary. ••
